This summer’s extended drought has taken a toll on the Lake Hendricks water level. The boat dock provided ample evidence. The first portion was now on land. The dock needed to be moved, and the City maintenance crew was called into action.

About 40 people gathered at the Tyler Rod & Gun Club Tuesday evening, Aug. 11, for the Buffalo Ridge Pheasants Forever Fun Shoot. The event drew a variety of ages, with men and women, boys and girls taking their turns at the range. While most participants were older than 15, a few younger shooters also came out to give it a try.

The Tyler Area Food Shelf once again finds itself scrambling to make repairs to its building on Bradley Street. In the process of constructing an addition on the north side of the building for deliveries, President Peggy Dunblazier said new issues were uncovered. “Our addition is in need of additional funds,” Dunblazier reported. “We ran into issues with the old foundation underneath the cement platform that we were going to use so we’ll need to replace it an additional cost of $10,000.”

The Onken family near Slayton is celebrating 100 years of family farm ownership. The family numbered 80 descendants of Herman John Onken at a family recent reunion that was two years in the making.
