Aug. 30, 1956 — A 40-yearold Nebraska woman was killed in a two-car crash at Sanborn Corner Saturday morning. It was the 22nd death in the past 15 years recorded at the intersection of Highway 14 and 71. Mrs. Louis Bates, wife of a print shop operator at Beatrice, Nebraska, died of skull injuries. She left four children ranging in age from 4 to 14. According to a newspaper report, Mr. Bates, 41, said, “I couldn’t see the traffic light. I thought I had the right-ofway.” His wife was thrown out of and under the car when it collided with the car of a newlywed Wisconsin couple. They were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Zeitler, Algoma, Wisconsin. She was severely cut. Two of the Bates’ children, Thomas 9 and James 14 were hospitalized. Zoitler’s car was heading east, and the Bates vehicle south, en-route home from a vacation in Canada.

Sept. 1, 1966 — Nearly 3,000 persons — a tremendous turnout — toured Christian Manor nursing home Sunday after dedication ceremonies for the $365,000 67-bed structure. The program itself got off to a late start on the warm afternoon due to arrival of several officials by air, but the crowd heard board members participate in the opening ceremonies before they were introduced. Board members include the Rev. Homer Dobson, chairman, Tracy; the Rev. Harlan Froelich, secretary, St. Paul; Stanley Ahlgrin, treasurer, Darwin; Rev. Harold Cabus, Minneapolis; Dr. R. Sampson, Benson; and Glen Von Mosch, Redwood Falls.

Aug. 26, 1976 — Butson Variety Store in Walnut Grove has been sold by Vernon Butson of Tracy to George and Marge Hoffmann of Walnut. The Hoffmanns assumed possession of the business on Monday, They purchased the store’s inventory from Butson and will be renting the 40 by 120-foot building space from John Jacobson of Tracy. Mrs. Hoffmann will operate and manage the store under the new name of G & M‘s Variety. She will be assisted by Madeline Alcorn who previously worked there under Butson. The Hoffmanns have resided in Walnut grove the past three years. Previous to that they lived at Pipestone, Marshall and Marshfield, WI. Hoffmann is manager of the Walnut Grove branch of the Revere-Walnut Grove Farmers Elevator Co.

Sept. 3, 1986 — It was a terrific night for Michelles at the 1987 Tracy Junior Miss program Sunday night. Michelle Keith won a $500 scholarship by winning the 1987 Tracy Junior Miss title. Michelle Olson was named the first runner-up. Other awards presented Included: Kay Thomson scholarship (Miss Congeniality) Julie West; Miss Photogenic, Vicki Lindstrom; poise and appearance, physical fitness routine. Jill Awiszus; creative and performing arts, personal Interview, Keith; scholastic achievement, Olson. Over 950 people attended the scholarship program.

Aug. 28, 1996 — Seven young women are competing in the 1997 Miss Tracy Scholarship program Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in the Tracy High School gym. Contestants, all seniors at Tracy Area High School, are: Dawn Buysse, Kim DeRuyck, Leah Seipel, Shannon Wendorff, Adrianne Domina, Crystal Robbins and Sara Warner.

Aug. 30, 2006 — The Tracy Eagles Club, Tracy Fire Dept. and Tracy Ambulance Service have announced plans for a benefit for Ryan Grunden. Proceeds are designated for Grunden’s medical and rehabilitation expenses. The 21-year-old Tracy man was injured in a July 15 motorcycle accident. He spent 4 1/2 weeks at a Sioux Falls hospital before coming home August 16. Aug. 31, 2016 — The Bonnie and Clyde’s “Hero Run” committee met last week to review details of their run on Aug. 20, an event that they hope will become an annual event. About 90 bikes registered for the run with 200 people taking part in the events of the day. Bonnie & Clyde’s of Tracy hosted the event with sponsorships from The Roaring Lions and Sinister Brethren RC as well as other businesses.
