The Tracy City Council on Monday discussed the possibility of removing the ice freezer inside the City-owned Boxcar Liquors building, and installing an outdoor appliance.
“We want the ice machine outside, so it gives us some more room in the store,” said Tam Schons, Boxcar Liquors manager. “Plus, ice companies really want it outside, because then they don’t have to have us there when they deliver.”
An electrical outlet would need to be installed on the building’s exterior.
Schons said the people she’s talked to at other liquor stores have had no problem with theft from their outdoor machines. That led to a discussion about security, and Schons said the City does need to upgrade the store’s security system. Schons said the system being used now predates her time with the liquor store.
“The system we have right now is outdated,” Tracy City Administrator Jeff Carpenter said. “We’re taking a look at that.”
