The Lyon County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved an agreement with MnDOT for the use of Lyon CSAH 2 between Russell and Tyler for the duration of its future U.S. Hwy. 14 resurfacing and culvert replacement project. Six miles of CSAH 2 would be a part of MnDOT’s detour for an estimated 188 days.
The agreement provides for payment by the State to the County for road life consumed on Hwy. 2 during the detour.
Hwy. 2 is considered to be in good shape, Lyon County Engineer Aaron VanMoer said.
The stretch of Hwy. 14 to be closed begins just went of Florence and continues to the west.
The State is about to perform grading, bituminous surfacing, retaining walls, ADA improvements and lighting construction upon, along and adjacent to Trunk Hwy. 75 from .62 miles south of Trunk Hwy. 14 to Trunk Highway 14.
The State is also planning bituminous overlay, cold in-place recycle and ADA improvements along Trunk Hwy. 14 from .05 miles west of Trunk Hwy. 75 to 1.59 miles west of Trunk Highway 23.
In other business from Tuesday …
• The board voted 3-1 to open archery deer hunting season in Garvin Park on October. 24; it will run through the end of the year. Commissioner Gary Crowley cast the lone dissenting vote. The park will not be closed to the general public during this time. The board can revisit the issue if needed. Garvin Park hosted roughly 60 archery hunters last fall.
• The board continued the budget discussion and will likely finalize the preliminary levy at its Sept. 15 meeting. If the levy isn’t approved by then, a special meeting will be held prior to the Sept. 30 deadline. The final levy must be approved in December.
