“Name that Year” is designed to put your knowledge of Tracy and its newsmakers of the past to the test. Each week, we will publish a news item that ran in a past edition — maybe it was a major event, or a story about a Tracy resident — it’s up to you to determine in what year that particular news item hit the pages of the paper:
• A NEW CHILD DAY-CARE BUSINESS — TOYS ‘N TOTS — OPENED ITS DOORS IN TRACY THIS YEAR.
“I enjoy being around children,” commented Glenda Hanson, owner and operator of the day care. “I worked for Wee World for five years and found I enjoyed this type of work so much that I ‘decided to go on my own.”
Toys ‘n Tots is located at 62 Morgan, next to Hanson’s home. The former residential house was extensively remodeled for use as a day care center, including the replacement of nearly all the building’s plumbing.
The day care is designed for children 2-1/2 to 10 years old. Children must be toilet trained. The facility is licensed for up to 10 children.
Hanson stated her day care will offer a variety of activities. “We offer creative play time, story hour, a time to make art projects and a time for the children to share things with the group.”
The daily schedule also reserves time for a nutritional snack, rest period, and some time for outside play.
“We also have a hot lunch catered everyday from the J&M Cafe in Tracy.”
Hanson added she has a monthly schedule made up ahead of time describing the different themes and topics the children will learn.
“At that time, we will have the police come and talk to the children about safety.” Other programs will be tailored around the different holidays of the year..
