Jackels, Squires pace Panther runners
The TMB/WWG cross country team continued to show improvement at last Thursday’s Panther Invitational at the Tracy Country Club.
For the girls, the top finisher was eighth-grader Lainey Jackels — her second Top 10 finish of the season. Jackels took eighth with a time of 21:46.6, a personal best, as she finished under 22 minutes for the first time.
Following Jackels was Miranda Mischke (20th at 24:13.9); and Evelyn Rentschler (26:35.8) — both improved on their times from last week.
The top finisher for the varsity boys, who finished fifth out of 12 teams, was Taylor Squires, who was 22nd overall with personal best time of 19:45.1.
“That has been a goal of his going into year two,” TMB/WWG coach Billy Dean said.
Weston Marten finished 24th at 19:52.7; Owen Beier was 31st at 20:06.6; Noah Schmidt was 34th at 20:30.2; Jackson Jenniges was 41st at 21:01.3; Zach Jones took 53rd at PR of 22:22.9; Sam Wiborg was 65th at 23:32.5; Tyson Petersen was 66th at 23:40.4; Gatlin Struchen was 70th at 23:11.0; and Karon Schneider was 72nd at 26:25.7.
“I was very happy with our results,” Dean said. “We had a lot of our runners improved their times from last week.”
Max Swick was a big highlight for the junior high team, as he ran the 2,000-meter race in a time of 7:34, which earned him a third-place ribbon.
Dean said Colin Nelson, Keagan Jenniges, Trenton Daniels, Vincent Munson, Justin Hernandez, Allie Duscher, and Josie Birman all improved their times by a good amount Thursday. Also, Marten, Jackson Jenniges, Jones, Petersen, Pfarr, Struchen and Wiborg all shaved off anywhere from 30 seconds to 4 minutes from their race last week.
“I was proud of our effort,” said Dean. “Tracy is a tough course, with a lot of hills, and I thought we took on the challenge and did well.”
