Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

Sept. 20, 1956 — Dr. Bob Derrick, Tracy dentist, won the golf club championship for the second time here Sunday but needed an extra hole to do it. His opponent, two-time winner Hugh Gibson, drove out-ofbounds on the extra hole. It was the third time the two men have faced off in match play at the Tracy Country Club. In fact, Gibson’s two titles came over Derrick.

Sept. 22, 1966 — Stepping out front with a pace-setting sub-par 33 on the first nine holes, Dave McClellan then fired rounds of 37 and 38 lo handily win the Tracy Country Club men’s championship for the third time last Sunday. Dave, who previously won the title in 1962 and 1963. never was seriously threatened by any of 16 opponents after his opening twounder-par round. His record for the 27 holes was 108 strokes.

Sept. 16, 1976 — A powerful Balaton team tallied 26 points in the first half en route to a 40-0 shellacking of Russell last Friday night at Balaton. The win gives Coach Ron Borchert’s Warriors a 2-0 mark going into Friday’s big game against rival Lake Benton at Lake Balaton. Touchdowns were scored by Greg Erickson (oneyard run); Al Wieme, on a sevenyard pass interception; Doug Runia (12-yard run); Lew Roberts, on a 15yard pass from quarterback Steve Borchert: by Jeff Baack (30-yard run) and Runia again in the final quarter on a one-yard run.

Sept. 24, 1986 — Doug Neisess led the Panthers with 96 yards on 16 carries and Richard Stanek had 30 yards on six carries in a tonight 1412 loss to the Granite Falls Kilowatts. Meyer had 111 yards on 26 rushes. Nelson snarred five passes for 80 yards. Brey had two for 18, and Tim Goerish and Neisess each had one reception for a total of 16 yards.

Sept. 18, 1996 — Leah and Julie Gifford each broke the course record as the Panther runners finished third in the Worthington Turkey Trott Saturday. Leah Gifford placed first and was followed by her sister Julie in second place. Both Giffords broke the Worthington course record of 15:40.

Sept. 20, 2006 — Panther running back Seth Swan rushed for 204 yards in 38 carries while the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton defense held RTR to 98 yards of total offense as T-M-B won 26-14 at Tracy Friday night. Although storms delayed the kickoff by an hour, Swan was the only lightning to strike the Knights, as he scored three times in the stormy evening

Sept. 21, 2016 — A three-set Panther victory over Renville County West on Sept. 13 was made even more special with milestone recognitions for Coach Katie Gervais and her daughter, senior setter Gabbie. Coach Gervais was given a commemorative ball for reaching her 300th career coaching victory at the Southwest Challenge in Marshall the previous weekend. Gabbie was recognized for passing her 3,000 set assist milestone. She had 3,126 career sets through the Sept. 14 match.
