Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
Sept. 27, 1956 — Tracy high school’s football team rolled to a 21-0 Ten Star Conference win over Springfield Friday night. The Scrappers galloped to a 14-0 halftime margin, fought off a Springfield comeback, and added another touchdown for good measure in the fourth period. Elrick Gregoire scored all three touchdowns for the Scrappers.
Sept. 29, 1966 — Dave McClellan and Marg Johnson are this season’s men’s and women’s club champions. The women’s champ won the title many times, while McClellan also won the honors in 1962 and 1963.
Sept. 23, 1976 — Dave Knott of Tracy is a member of the Bemidji State University football team which plays Southwest State University this Saturday afternoon at Marshall. Kick-off time is 1:30 p.m. Knott, a 1973 graduate of Tracy High School, is a defensive end on the Beaver Team which has won its first two games of the 1976. Knott is the son of Mrs. Bob Knott, rural Tracy.
Oct. 1, 1986 — It was a good week for Walnut Grove volleyball. Make that a very good week. The Loggers won four matches during the past week, winning a tournament at Cottonwood, and upping their season record to 13-1. “We played well,” said Coach Paula Douglass. The Loggers began the week Thursday with a 17-15, 15-5, 15-6 win over Butterfield-Odin. Saturday in the Clarkfield tournament. Walnut Grove won easily over Balaton 15-7, 15-2 and Clarkfield 15-9, 15-8, before edging Tracy-Milroy 16-14, 15-18 and 19-17 in the championship game. Sally Nelson and Lachelle Giese each had three ace service. Amy Farber and Nelson paced Walnut Grove in hitting with 24 and 10 kills, respectively.
Sept. 25, 1996 — The Panther football team staged a dramatic second-half rally to bury MACCRAY 30-13 at Tracy Friday night. Senior linebacker Mike Gervais led the Panther tacklers with 11 while junior linebacker Bill Novosad had 9. Josh Swenhaugen and Dave Rialson were each credited with a sack.
Sept. 27, 2006 — The Panther football team upset Murray County Central, ranked fifth in the state in class A and with a 3-0 record, 37-22 at Slayton Friday night. Seth Swan (171 yards) and quarterback Isaac Dolan (112) led the Panther ground game.
Sept. 28, 2016 — Seniors Lexi Tauer and Gabbie Gervais were both perfect from the service line, as Tracy-Milroy-Balaton earned a three-set Camden Conference win over Lakeview Sept. 20. Set scores were 25-16, 25-13, and 25-10. Gervais was 14-14 with an ace, while Tauer was 11-11, also with an ace.
