“Name that Year” is designed to put your knowledge of Tracy and its newsmakers of the past to the test. • PRAIRIE VIEW HOSTED A 50TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY IN SEPTEMBER OF THIS YEAR to commemorate the opening of what was then known as the Christian Manor.
“We’d like everyone to come out and help us celebrate,” said Brian Hinrichs, Prairie View Senior Living executive director.
Pulled pork sandwiches, beans, and chips will be served. There is no charge, and the public is invited.
Hinrichs says the event is intended not only to draw attention to the nursing home’s half-century milestone, but also thank the community for its on-going support over the years.
The Benevolent Association of the Church of Christ built one nursing home in Minnesota.
The faith organization, supported by 57 Minnesota Church of Christ congregations, built that single nursing home in Tracy.
Why Tracy? Retired Church of Christ pastor Homer Dobson, who served on the Benevolent Association’s board in the 1960s, cites two reasons.
“No. 1, was the gift of land,” Dobson said of the five acres that Tracy Enterprises gave to the project, across the street from Tracy Municipal Hospital. “That land had water and sewer services available, and it was ready to build on.”.
• Last week’s answer: It was 1999 when prompt medical attention saved the life of a then-15-year-old Luke Guetter of Wabasso at the Tracy Area High School track complex.
