Work at the new Central Park playground is not done just yet.
The Tracy City Council on Monday approved a motion to use a portion of donated funds for the park to plant shade trees.
There is a walking path and benches near the playground, but little shade. The Park Board had already approved spending money on some trees, which will be planted by Greenwood Nursery. The estimated cost of the trees and labor is $1,900; the trees have a two-year warranty.
• The city council also approved a motion Monday to increase fire department benefits from $2,000 to $2,400, plus incremental $100 annual increases for the next five years; this will not affect the City budget.
• The council approved a change order for the Phase E project, changing the contract price from $6,944,266.34 to $6,956,831.34, for the removal of 359 feet of asbestos cement piping that was unearthed. The change order amounts to .18% of the project costs; the total cost of the project includes a 5% contingency fund. A Phase E pay app for $326,265.15 was also approved.
