Autumn Christians was up about 5 o’clock Wednesday morning, and you can’t turn to the snooze bar when it’s one of your children who wakes you. Less than four hours later, it was off to the park — her four children in tow — to enjoy a perfect fall morning.

Such is the life of this busy mother, who is about to get even busier.

Christians, a 2017 Tracy Area High School graduate, is on the verge of helping to fill a very big need in many small towns, as she is starting a daycare called Learn, Play, Grow Home Daycare in her 1st St. East home.

“This has been my dream for a very, very long time,” said Christians, who grew up watching her aunts run daycares. “I wanted to do daycare for so long, but I just did not have the space; when we bought our house, the whole basement was open, and I was like, that would be perfect.” Child Development Associate credential, doesn’t plan on being just a babysitter, either. Her goal is to get the children prepared as much as she can for school in terms of teaching motor skills through things like arts and crafts.

“I want to make sure they’re preschool-ready,” she said. “Teach them their shapes and their colors before they go to preschool. That way, I know that I’ve done my part to make sure school is more fun for them.”
