“Name that Year” is designed to put your knowledge of Tracy and its newsmakers of the past to the test. Each week, we will publish a news item that ran in a past edition — maybe it was a major event, or a story about a Tracy resident — it’s up to you to determine in what year that particular news item hit the pages of the paper:
• Currie opened the doors on a Monday of morning of this year on its fancy, new 3,812-square foot municipal liquor lounge and off-sale liquor store.
A large, standing-room only crowd packed the old Currie liquor store Saturday night and early Sunday morning to appropriately recognize the old facility and celebrate opening of the new store.
Dean Bassett of Currie is manager of the new store. Phil Cummisky of Currie, manager of the old store since 1955, will retire in several weeks and plans to assist Bassett until then.
The new store is attractively fumished with carpeting, 25 lounge tables with accompanying chairs and 17 comfortably padded bar stools. The store’s new bar is also handsomely padded.
Marvin Lindberg Construction of Currie was general contractor for the $125,000 liquor store project. Other firms involved included Bisbee Plumbing and Heating, Marshall; Olson Electric, Marshall; and Country Cabinets of Foley.
Other employees of the store include Norma Peschges, asssistant manager; and Brenda Bassett, Michelle Fogelson and Diane Keeler, waitresses.
Last year, residents of Currie voted in favor of $125.000 in general revenue bonds to finance the construction. Passage of the proposal came on a slim five-vote margin with 67 voting in favor and 62 voting against it.
• Last week’s answer: The Tracy Municipal Bar served up its last drinks in 2016.
