Oct. 9, 1996 — The former Faith Lutheran Church building has a new congregation. The church and parsonage, vacant since May, has been purchased by the Hmong Community Alliance Church. For the past four years the Hmong congregation has used space at two other churches in Tracy. For two years, the group met at the Christian Alliance Church. More recently, the Hmong congregation has conducted services Sunday afternoons at the Tracy Lutheran Church. Pastor Xiong Her says the congregation is excited to be moving into their own church building. “It will be nice to have our own place. We will be able to have our church services on Sunday morning again rather than in the afternoon. It is a very exciting time for our congregation,” said Her.

It is named after Melvin Jones, the founder of Lions Club International. Ron Robbins, Tracy Lions Club treasurer, presented the award to Marben at a recent meeting. Oct. 12, 2016 — “There is no one more ordinary than me,” Leo Thorsness insisted Thursday in Walnut Grove. “I’m no hero. I was just doing my job.” Lines of people — waiting for the chance to shake hands and speak with the retired U.S. Air Force Colonel — suggested otherwise. “He’s a real hero. A man who risked his life to save others,” said Walnut Grove Mayor Greg Hansen, in introducing the Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, and 1950 Walnut Grove High graduate, at his alma mater.
