My name is Nikki Hinrichs and I have lived in Tracy for the last 9 years. I was born and raised in Sibley, a small town in northwest Iowa. I have worked in healthcare for the last 25 years and have been the Social Services Director at Prairie View Senior Living for the last 5 years. My husband Brian and I have 4 children and have recently joined the “empty nesters” club.
Why did you decide to run for a seat on the council?
I am running for City Council because I believe in Tracy and want to help build a stronger future for our community. I want to see our downtown become vibrant, support the businesses we have, and help attract new businesses and opportunities. I believe Tracy has so much potential. I believe that with teamwork and community involvement we can make a real difference. I do not have all the answers, but I care about the community, I am willing to listen, and I am ready to work together to find practical solutions.

I want Tracy to be a place where people are proud to live, families want to stay, businesses want to invest, and visitors want to stop.
Are there areas along Hwy. 14 that can be improved, and if so, how can we make that happen?
Since moving to Tracy, I have been thinking about ways we can highlight our wonderful community and encourage more visitors to stop in town. Highway 14 serves as our primary gateway, seeing a high volume of daily traffic. While we have a fantastic variety of businesses along the north side of the highway, the corridor itself currently looks a bit bare.
As we all know, small-town downtowns are mostly quiet these days when it comes to retail. What can Tracy do to bring vibrancy and traffic back to downtown, and how can Tracy attract more business to bolster our tax base, either downtown or elsewhere?
I believe we have a great opportunity to significantly enhance the visual appeal of this corridor. By introducing strategic landscaping, we can create inviting “visual hooks” that draw drivers off the highway and encourage them to explore what Tracy has to offer.
Beyond beautification, I would love to help find innovative ways to promote our existing businesses and actively advertise the open commercial spaces currently available in town. Our goal should be to show prospective entrepreneurs that Tracy is a thriving, welcoming community where they can successfully grow their businesses.
Although I did not grow up here, I believe my perspective as a newer resident brings a fresh set of eyes and ideas. I am deeply invested in Tracy’s future and want to help continue making our town a vibrant place where people love to live, work, and visit.
