MAKING ‘HEADLIGHT’ HEADLINES IN…

A look at interesting copy that grabbed our attention “back in the day.”

Gas prices rise … to $1.08

The honeymoon of lower gas prices enjoyed by motorists this winter is ending.

Local service stations all report increases at the gas pumps since February.

Increased seasonal demand and tightened wholesale supplies are factors behind the increase.

“Gas prices have been very low, they got down to $1.07 at one time this winter, but because we’re moving towards the travel and farm season, the gas prices rise,” comments Robert Caron of Caron’s Fuel & Supplies. He predicted the prices could possibly go up 10 cents a gallon.

“The gas prices will rise at least another three cents a gallon.” said Ric Stefanick from Ric’s Mobil Service. He didn’t want to guess how much more the gas prices might go, but indicated this is the time of year for us to see an increase in the price of gas.

“Wholesalers say the supply is down,” said Harry Van De Wiele of Union 76. “We’ve seen steady increases in the prices for a while already,” he said. He doesn’t see changes for the near future.

“It’s natural and seasonal,” said Dale Johnson Jr . of Johnson’s Mobil in reference to the gas prices. “It would probably be better for the tourist trade if it would just stay at $1.08 he said, but he added, “You could go by the clock; the gas prices will rise at this time of year. “It isn’t right, but we just live here.”
