The Lamberton Hot Iron crew made a powerful impression on the national stage recently as guest artists at the National Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron and Practices in Alabama. A large cupola furnace was transported from Lamberton to take part in a collaborative performance.

Seven fire departments battled a fire at the cafe building that is under renovation in downtown Ivanhoe on April 18. No injuries were reported, but the second floor of the building was heavily damaged. The fire call came in at 12:15 a.m.

Walnut Grove’s annual Family Festival has been renamed and is now the Walnut Grove Village Fair. Also, Adrienne Kletscher, Connie Knott, and Rick and Lori Wakefield attended a recent council meeting to get permission to use the city park and for the City to be the judiciary agent for the event. The council OK’d the proposal and will contribute $2,000 for the event.

A push-in ceremony and open house will take place April 27 at the Fulda Fire Department, where locals can see the new fire truck. Push-in events like this date back to the 1830s when a new piece of fire apparatus was purchased by a fire department or community.

Dr. Trevor Roiger, director of the Athletic Training program at SDSU in Bookings, SD, recently received the Outstanding Teacher Award. Roiger launched a communitybased emergency planning project in 2023 that connected athletic training students with under-resourced secondary schools across South Dakota.
