Gary Mickelson, 71

Gary Allan Mickelson, known as “Mick”, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, at the age of 71. A resident of Rosemount, MN, Gary was originally from Tracy. He was born on May 7, 1953, to Anna Mae and Roger Mickelson.

At the age of 18, Gary decided to enlist in the United States Air Force. He dedicated much of his life to the Minnesota Air National Guard, receiving the highestranking position of Chief Master Sergeant. He was a Flight Engineer on C130s and instructor in the flight simulator. His commitment to service took him overseas for training and deployments. He formed lasting bonds with fellow service members and saw many beautiful and imperfect parts of the world. Knowing Gary meant knowing the stories and life lessons that came from his experiences. Despite his demanding career, Gary cherished time with his beloved daughters, Kristin and Sarah. His fondest memories included watching them play soccer, and hunting with old friends.

After celebrating his 50th birthday in Iraq, Gary decided to retire and spend more time with his late wife, Ceil. Together, they enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as running errands together, tending to their yard and Ceil’s flowers, and socializing with friends. Ceil passed away on July 5, 2010.

Gary is survived by daughters, Kristin Davis (Andrew) and Sarah Cesar (Evan), and his six cherished grandchildren: Kash, Kaden, Sam, Lucille, Kinsley, and Charlotte. He also leaves behind his siblings: Becky Averill, Judy Bergs (Greg), Mike Mickelson, Kelly Villa, Paul Mickelson (Paula), AnnMarie Killian (Kenny), his extended Ruppert family, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille “Ceil” (Ruppert) Mickelson, his parents, Anna Mae and Roger, and his brother-in-law, Gene Averill.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held on May 8, 2025, at White Funeral Home, located at 14560 Pennock Avenue, Apple Valley, MN. A Visitation for friends and family will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Service from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. and Burial Ceremony at St. Joseph Cemetery in Rosemount, MN. Lunch and beverages will be served at the American Legion Post 1776, located at 14521 Granada Dr., Apple Valley, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. All friends and family are welcome to attend.

Gary’s life was one of service, love, and dedication, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Kristin and Sarah take peace in knowing their parents are together again.

Donations may be made to Gary’s favorite charities, The Wounded Warriors Project or Disabled American Veterans.
