Sports Flashbacks

Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

May 12, 1955 — A most interesting physical education demonstration was held Tracy high school auditorium at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 6. Both boys and girls performed in the annual program which attracted large turnout of parents and friends. The program was under the supervision of Arch Ward, boys physical education instructor and baseball and wrestling coach, and Miss Elsie Dudley, girls physical education director.

May 13, 1965 — Winning first place at a track meet in Marshall were Scrappers Ken Bicek, Mary Kurtz, who had three first-place finishes.

May 8, 1975 — Coach Bob Mikkelsen’s track team scored fifth among 20 teams in the Madison Relays. Third-place finishes for Tracy were Andy Lee, Charlie DeVetter, Jim Sweetman and J.D. Visker.

May 9, 1985 — Duane Hatch heaved the shot put 47-6 1/2 to break the old school record by a strong foot. “Duane has been working very hard on the shot put and has been doing an exceptional job. I was glad to see him break the record. He has the potential to improve even more,” commented Coach Mike Peterreins.

May 10, 1995 — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton baseball team won their 7th straight game of the season against no loses, 20-10 over Lakeview at Cottonwood. Jamie Louwagie led the hilling attack with a 4-for 4-effort. Jeff Dolan went 3-for-6 and Corey Louwagie was 3 for 5.

May 11, 2005 — The Panther baseball team won a rain-shortened conference game against 212-Conference rival BOLD at Tracy 9-2. Donald Strand, Matt Bauer and David Schmidt led the 10-hit Panther attack with 2 hits in the win over BOLD. Bauer pitched the entire game and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 7 and walking 1.
