May 11, 2005 — Several themes emerged from a Tracy City Council public hearing about a proposed wellness/rehab center for Tracy Hospital Monday. Many comments expressed support for the concept, but only if the project did not require taxpayer support. Opinion was divided on whether the community would be better off building a new facility near the hospital or remodeling an existing building. “What I’m hearing from this is that people are willing to support this, but they don’t want the taxpayers to have to help pay for it,” summed up councilman Bill Chukuske, near the end of the hearing.
