Playing their fourth game in three days, the Panthers were blanked by Murray County Central, 8-0 in a nonconference game in Tracy.

TMB’s only hits were doubles by Melaina Ankrum and Alli Dolan.

Once again, the Panthers were victims of one very bad inning, when the Rebels scored all of their runs in the third.

At Saturday’s tournament in Wabasso, TMB allowed two 13-run innings in their two losses.

“We can’t seem to find a way to play a game without giving up one really big inning,”TMB coach Karl Campbell said. “Saturday it was the sixth inning against Edgerton, then the first against Lac qui Parle. Here, it was an 8-spot in the third. If we can just cut that in half even we still can have a chance. We played Slayton dead even except for the third inning.”

MCC starter Thea Schneider was in control the whole game, as she struck out 10 in the shutout victory — seven looking.

Panthers 1-2 at Wabasso Tournament

The Panthers went 1-2 against some tough competition at a tournament in Wabasso on Saturday:

• TMB fell 22-8 to Edgerton in the first game, as the Panthers allowed 13 runs in the sixth inning to let the game get away from them.

Brianna Duscher, Gretchen Lanoue, Aliyah Loftness and Braelynn Kirk all had two hits, and Melaina Ankrum and Piper Freeburg both knocked in two runs.

“We started really well — defensively they went three upthree down in the first, and then we put five runs on the board,” TMB coach Karl Campbell said. It was a good game up until the sixth inning — we were down 9-8 going into that inning and then the wheels fell off. We couldn’t find an out.”

• LQPV scored 13 first-inning runs en route to a 14-2 win over the Panthers in the second game.

Getting hits for TMB were Duscher, Ankrum, Loftness and Kirk.

“We had the bad inning right away in the top of the first where we couldn’t make a play, but after that we played OK,” Campbell said. “Didn’t hit the ball like we did the first game, but outscored them by a run after the first inning.”

• The Panthers’ bright spot of the day was a 9-1 win over BOLD.

Duscher and Kirk both had three hits, Loftness had two hits and Alexis Brey drove in three runs. Ankrum was solid in the circle, pitching a complete game and allowing just one hit.

“She’s still giving free passes, but had a lot better control, Campbell said. “BOLD had trouble getting any solid contact. I gave some younger players some playing time and they all contributed. Our defense was solid, we executed a couple really good plays, including a 4-6-3 double play to get out of one inning.”

MAY 8: TMB 18, ORTONVILLE 3

TMB made quick work of Ortonville last Thursday, winning 18-3 in four innings.

The Panthers trailed 1-0 after a half inning, but that deficit was quickly erased, as TMB scored twice in its half of the inning. They then pushed across seven runs in the second, three in the third and six more in the fourth to send the Trojans packing for the long ride back home.

Rosa Vang had three hits and scored four times, Brianna Duscher also had three hits and scored twice, Melaina Ankrum homered, drove in three and scored three runs and Kendra Timmerman had a pair of hits and scored twice.

Gretchen Lanoue struck out six over four innings of work. She also had two hits and knocked in four.
