SUB-SECTION 3A TRACK
A dozen TMB tracksters advanced to individual section competition, joining five relays teams in doing so at last week’s Sub-Section Track & Field Meet in Luverne. Those athletes have advanced to the Section 3A Meet in Redwood Falls, which begins at 2 p.m. today (May 29).
“Sub-Sections is always a day of ups and downs, but our ‘ups’ far outweighed our ‘downs,’” TMB track and field coach Heather Kamrud-Rice said. “I’ve been looking at times and our sub-section has been looking pretty tough.”
There are three sub-sections in track; the top four from each sub-section automatically advance. The next four best marks from the combined three sections get in as a wild card.
“A few examples of how our sub-section was so fast: In the boys 110 meter hurdles, the girls 100 meter and the boys 200 meter, all of the wild card entries came from our sub-section,” Kamrud-Rice said. “And on the girls’ side, two of the sprinters in our sub-section are likely going to place in state this year. But all of that competition really pushed everyone. We ended up with 24 PRs and 23 events advancing to sections.”
Personal records from sub-sections Calie Johns 14.88 in the 100m Avery Anderson 30.83 in the 200m and 56.59 in the 300m hurdles Eli Lightfoot 25.58 in the 200m Karson Schneider 59.60 in the 400m Xander Brinkley 1:11.12 in the 400m Owen Beier 5:55.90 in the 1600m Elsie Knott 1:13.24 in the 400m Lauren Knakmuhs 2:48.22 in the 800m Talon Brinkley 19.21 in the 110m hurdles and 51.67 in the 300m hurdles Auden Ortiz 49.89 in the 300m hurdles Linaye Odom 53.51 in the 300m hurdles Kaylie Danielson 23,11” in shot put Hadyn Ohman 88’4” in discus Jonathan Reyes 80’11” in discus Gracelynn Struchen 4’2” in high jump Damion Crooks 9’8” in pole vault Noah Schmidt 8’2” in pole vault Karson Schneider 6’8” in the pole vault Sam Lightfoot 16’9” in the long jump Eli Lightfoot 38’8.5” in the triple jump The girls 4x100 relay with a 55.58 The boys 4x200 relay with a 1:33.6 Girls advancing to sections: Teagan Viessman in the 100m hurdles RaeLynn Schreier in the 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles Marin Knott in the 1600m and the 3200m Linaye Odom in the 300m hurdles and the triple jump 4x100 relay (Viessman, E.Carter, Schreier, Odom) 4x200 relay (Johns, Anderson, Knakmuhs, Odom) 4x400 relay (Knakmuhs, Hicks, E. Knott, M. Knott) Boys advancing to sections: Cade Swenhaugen in the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles Talon Brinkley in the 110m hurdles Aidan Swenhaugen in the 100m, 200m and high jump Tyler Arnold in the 400m Hunter Ostgaard in the 200m Damion Crooks in the pole vault Eli Lightfoot in the triple jump 4x100 relay (Arnold, Morgan, Moua, Ostgaard) 4x200 relay (C. Swenhaugen, Arnold, Morgan, A. Swenhaugen) 4x400 relay (E. Lightfoot, Schneider, Moua, Morgan)
At sections, the top two automatically advance to state. There are no wild cards at that level, but there are state qualifying standards. TMB’s boys 4x200 relay just ran a 1:33.6 and the state qualifying time is 1:32.98 (the school record is 1:32.03 set by Jun Kondo, Josh Hook, John Swenhaugen and Drew Nelson in 2000). That means if they can run 0.62 seconds faster Thursday, they automatically qualify for state.
Aidan Swenhaugen has run the qualifying time for the 100m and the 200m several times this season and has also jumped the qualifying height in high jump. Cade Swenhaugen has been within one-half second of the qualifying time in the 100 hurdles several times this season. He has also run under the qualifying time for the 300 hurdles several times.
“Cade and Aidan are trying to break the records they set last year — Aidan holds the record in the 200 meter with 22.27 seconds, and Cade holds the record in the 300 meter hurdles with 40.30 seconds,” Kamrud-Rice said.
• The State Track & Field meet will take place June 10-12 at St. Michael-Albertville High School. Class A events will take place June 10-11.
