THE SECTION GRIND

SECTION 3A TRACK & FIELD

Section 3A provided some seriously stiff competition last week where even one’s best wasn’t good enough; to no one’s surprise, the sole survivors were Aidan and Cade Swenhaugen

Toward the end of last week’s Section 3A Track & Field Meet in Redwood Falls, Aidan Swenhaugen admitted his body felt a little “beat up.” But… “We have some time for recovery,” he said. “I should be ready.”

For most TMB track competitors who felt the same way, that wouldn’t be a big deal, but for Swenhaugen, he knew he didn’t have a whole summer to heal.

That’s because the recent TAHS graduate had to turn around and get ready for another state meet appearance, as he qualified in both the 200 meter run (section champion, 22.60) and 100 meter run (second place, 11.25).

The TMB boys’ 4x200 relay team had a legitimate shot at making state, but in a very tough section, finished fourth with a time of 1:35.54.

“I was hoping that we’d make it in the 4x2(00) relays,” Aidan said.

Joining Aidan at state will be his cousin, Cade, who is also making his second straight appearance at state by taking second in the 110 meter hurdles at sections after running a 15.68.

Cade also came close to moving on in the 300 meter hurdles, taking fourth at 42.84.

“I’ve been having some calf problems,” he said. “Dealing with a lot of pain. But it’s getting better. I expected to qualify in the 300 (hurdles).”

Cade said his goal at state is to make Wednesday’s finals for a shot at the podium.

Class A state preliminares will take place Tuesday, with finals running the next day.
