June 9, 1955 — Tracy scored four times in the first two innings and went on to defeat Balaton 7-1 behind the five-hit pitching of Roger Mickelson here Tuesday evening. Mickelson struck out nine and walked five. At the plate, Lee Brandt led the way with a pair of doubles and a single, while Whitey Brekken and Mickelson each chipped in with two singles.
June 10, 1965 — Nick Kurtz and Ken Bicek will accompany coach John Garrett to this year’s state track meet. Kurtz will compete in the broad jump and Bicek in the high hurdles after qualifying in the Region III track meet in Hutchinson.
June 5, 1975 — Tracy’s 880-yard relay team of Murray Powers, Andy Lee, Bob Lauthen and Jim Sweetman finished second at the Region III track meet. Kevin Tholen placed fourth in the high jump, and Bob Lauthen fifth in the 100-yard dash.
June 6, 1983 — Tracy track team members who qualified for the state track meet this week are: Teresa Morin, Cherise Dold, Marj Kosse and Julie West. All the girls are members of a 1600 meter relay. West also qualified with a second place in the 110-meter hurdles.
June 7, 1995 — The Panther girls’ track team came home champions Thursday night. The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton team captured the Section 3A track and field championship meet at Montevideo, qualifying five girls for state competition in Blaine Friday and Saturday. The championship was the first regional girls’ track championship ever achieved by Tracy, Milroy and Balaton athletes. Sophomore hurdler Kris DeRuyck led the team, qualifying for state in three events, winning two. Sophomore Leah Gifford qualified for state in the 1600 meter run and the 4x400 meter relay. Junior Sonja Kamrud qualified in the 100 meter hurdles. Junior Daisy Schmidt and Sophomore Kim DeRuyck, members of the 4x400 meter relay team, complete the Panther girLs’ state qualifiers. For the Panther boys, senior Chad Willard qualified for state by winning the pole vault.
June 8, 2005 — Junior standout Bobbi Buyck has qualified for four individual girls’ events: the 100 and 200-meter dashes, the pole vault, and the 100-meter hurdles. She won the 100-meter dash and the pole vault, and finished second in the hurdles and 200-meter dash at the Section 3A meet in Redwood Falls.
June 10, 2015 — Two Panther track athletes competed at the state track meet at Hamlin University Friday. Kendra Ludeman cleared 5 feet, 2 inches, to place eighth in the high jump. Asa Nelson did not place in gaining 12 feet in the pole vault.
