Twenty-seven youngsters attended Tracy Lutheran Church’s three-day Vacation Bible School week titled, “Backstage with the Bible.” Children were sent off for the summer knowing that they can be brave, strong and courageous when they keep God’s truth with them, said VBS volunteer Missie Erbes.
Students also learned how God used Moses to guide the Israelites across the Red Sea and how Joshua followed God’s direction when the walls of Jericho fell.
Also this year, 17 fourth- sixth-graders were welcomed to a “Lock in to Jesus” event.
The students arrived last Thursday evening and spent the night at the church, focusing on the well-known Psalm 23, most specifically that “the Lord prepares a table for me among my enemies.”
The class discussed different types of enemies and distractions that can turn their focus away from God. Erbes said things like cell phones, video games, sports, fashion, sleep and getting a perfect score on school assignments are good things generally, but can also keep them from spending time with the Lord, or they become an obsession.
The locked-in pre-teens filled the overnight hours with games, crafts, pizza making, going in a Holy Week escape room and watching a movie.
