June 16, 1955 — Tracy’s two “staters” are in St. Paul this week taking a one-week course in practical citizenship courtesy of the state and local American Legion and Auxiliary. Pat DeBlieck, daughter of Mrs. Harry DeBlieck, and Darwin Burda, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Burda, were selected to represent Tracy at Girl’s State and Gopher Boy’s State.

June 17, 1965 — Dr. Lauren Donaldson, director of the laboratory of radiation biology at the University of Washington, has been awarded an honorary doctor of science degree from Hamline University. He is a native of Tracy.

June 12, 1975 — Tracy’s Mini Employment Office opened June 10 with Miss Barbara Saxton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Saxton, in charge of the office. It is located in the Municipal Building in what was formerly the City Engineer’s office.

June 13, 1985 — Grand openings have been slated at two Tracy businesses this week. The grand opening at Tracy Lumber (formerly Peavey Lumber Building on South Fourth Street) will be held Friday and Saturday, featuring extra savings on all cash purchases, registration for door prizes, free lunch served Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and coffee and cookies served both days. The Fabrics Plus downtown shop was recently purchased by Elaine Nyquist. She invites the public to “help us celebrate the shop’s grand opening June 13 to 19.”

She joined other members of the local chapter at a noon luncheon at the Jane Muedeking home. The group discussed the need for membership recruitment. Local DAR member. Nan Ladehoff, has been a member for approximately six years. “The DAR is an excellent organization. I hope we can attain our present membership and entice new members to join us,” said Ladehoff.

June 15, 2005 — The irony was eerie. On the 37th anniversary of the Tracy Tornado, a funnel cloud gyrated in the atmosphere west of Tracy. “It was awesome,” Todd Cambronne said. The funnel cloud appeared at about 6:25 p.m., Monday, June 13, just north of the Cambronne’s farmstead two miles west of Tracy. Cambronne watched the funnel cloud for perhaps three or four minutes until it disappeared. His wife, Sherrie, and in-laws, Neil and Millie Horsman, also observed the funnel cloud.

June 17, 2015 — The Tom Rignell Memorial Benefit at the Breezy Barn was a home run Saturday. An estimated 1,200 attended the event, which remembered the well-known Tracy man, who died May 18 at age 62. The 1971 Tracy High School graduate had received an artificial heart transplant in February, and was awaiting a matched heart donor transplant at the Rochester Mayo Clinic. Proceeds from the benefit will help defray medical expenses incurred by the Rignell family during a fourmonth hospitalization. Family members have indicated that they want to use part of the proceeds for a school-related project in Tom’s memory.
