Special session … again?
Another special session began and ended this week. Stop the presses! Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy late last week applauded legislators in St. Paul for finding common ground. Our question is, why couldn’t both sides find this common ground Murphy speaks of a month ago? Who was waving this magic wand that made legislators all of a sudden find common ground.
Yes, they had a 23-day late start, but that’s because the Dems. were no-shows for the first three-plus weeks. It’s their own fault. What would your boss do if you skipped three weeks of work?
As usual, there are wins and losses for taxpayers in the budget agreement.
The following are bills that still needed action Monday:
• health and human services and children and families policy and budget;
• commerce and consumer protection policy and budget;
• human services budget;
• education policy and budget;
• transportation policy and budget;
• capital investment;
• taxes and local aids;
• data centers;
• environment and natural resources budget;
• jobs, labor and economic development policy and budget;
• higher education policy and budget; and
• energy, utilities and climate policy and budget; That was quite a honey-do list. While we’re on the subject, no, Prairie View is not closing. Apparently, some people took last week’s story in the Headlight a bit out of context, drawing the conclusion from the piece that the nursing facility is closing its doors. That’s an overreaction, and we just wanted to clear that up.
