Name That Year

“Name that Year” is designed to put your knowledge of Tracy and its newsmakers of the past to the test. Each week, we will publish a news item that ran in a past edition — maybe it was a major event, or a story about a Tracy resident — it’s up to you to determine in what year that particular news item hit the pages of the paper:

• The Tracy Community Band celebrated its 25th year with an anniversary concert in Central Park Thursday, June 25, of this year.

The Fine Arts Council of Tracy, with an assist from the Tracy Lions on their grills, will be serving 25-cent hot dogs beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Park picnic shelter. “Popular Demand,” a women’s a capella quartet, will perform beginning at 6 p.m. in the Central Park bandshell.

The community band will perform at 6:30 p.m. “It’s been a wonderful 25 years,” says Clint Peterson, who has been the group’s only director. “Over the years we’ve had a lot of faithful members who have given many hours of time to performances and rehearsals.”

The 35-member band has about a dozen musicians who began playing with the original school reunion band. They include Penny Peterson, Jeri Schons, Marlys Edwards, Pam Gervais, Chauncey Muedeking, Dolly Hewitt, Harold Hewitt, Dick Stelter, Pam Sommervold, Cookie Cooreman, and Carla VandeWiele. Lois Ahlschlager has been in the band for 24 years.

• Last week’s answer: Michael Munson was hired as elementary school principal in 2014.
