The Tracy Legion fell to Windom 8-6 on Monday. More important than the outcome, however, is that Connor Lanoue was recovering nicely Tuesday after being hit in the face by a pitch.
Lanoue took a curveball to the nose in the third inning. He stayed in the dugout for the duration of the game and was taken to the hospital after. Because of the swelling to his nose, no X-rays were taken, and his mother said Tuesday he will be re-evaluated in the coming days.
“When he threw it, it kind of had that spin, so I thought it was a curve ball, but it never broke,” Lanoue said. “It just stayed straight and hit the top of my nose. It doesn’t hurt much. Obviously it hurt at the time, but I wanted to keep playing because it was a close game.”
Lanoue had already collected two hits and an RBI before the fateful at-bat, and lamented the fact that he wasn’t able to stay in the game.
“I was ready to hit a double or something so we could take the lead,” he said. “But it is what it is. (The pitcher) said he was sorry after the game and that it wasn’t intentional, and I’m like, ‘I hope it wasn’t!’” Lanoue has rebounded nicely and even showed up to help coach park and rec T-ball the next morning.
As for the game itself, the score was tied at 5 after three innings, but Windom was able to push across another run in the fourth and two more in the fifth and held on for the victory. Griffin Zick drove in two runs for Tracy. Lanoue also was the starting pitcher, going three innings. Aiden Sanow pitched the final four innings.
