Sports Flashbacks

June 30, 1955 — Balaton dropped the Tracy American Legion Junior team by a score of 5-1 and 4-1 as J. Arthur went the route and allowed Tracy only four hits.

July 1, 1965 — Aided by the superb pitching of Dave McClellan and five opponent error, the Tracy Legion baseball team blanked Balaton at Legion Field to the tune of 5-0. Balaton’s second-sacker Johnson nicked McClellan for the visitors’ only hit. The local hurler had 16 strikeouts.

June 26, 1975 — Tracy’s American Legion baseball leam defeated Balaton 11-0 Monday in an abbreviated five-inning contest at Balaton. Torre Nelson, Tracy right-hander. threw a one-hitter while Legion batsmen picked up seven hits including a two-run homer by Dave Sebastian.

June 27, 1985 — Gay Stone and Bud Robinson teamed up for the top score in the Monday morning golf league at the Tracy Country Club. Stone and Robinson carded a 35. In a tie for second place at 37 were the teams of Art Holstein and Harry Zwach and Dick Maertens and Don Daniels.

June 28, 1995 — The Tracy VFW Baseball Team swept a double header from Granite Falls at Granite Falls last Tuesday night 10-0 and 10-2. Catcher Derek Pinckney continued to hit the ball well and was 4-for-6 in the two games. Brian Dolan was 4-for-5 and was the winning pitcher in the first game. He shut out the Granite Falls team and only gave up 1 hit while striking out 3.

June 29, 2005 — The Milroy Legion team won over Cottonwood Monday night at Milroy, in a pitcher’s duel, by a score of 1-0. The win improved Milroy’s record to 4-4. Derek Radke went all the way on the mound for Milroy. He pitched 7 innings giving up no runs on only 4 hits while walking none, hitting one batsman and striking out 1. The lone Milroy run came on a hit batsman with the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

July 1, 2015 — Anna Peterson has received an all-state volleyball plaque from the Panther Booster Club. Peterson, who was the libero on the Panthers’ second-place Class A state tournament team, earned both all-state and all-tournament honors last fall. The threetime Camden Conference selection logged 2,069 serve receptions, and 1,489 digs. From the service line, she contributed 139 aces. The Tracy Area High School 2015 salutatorian will be attending Winona State University this fall.
