The Milroy Irish played two highlycompetitive games last weekend but came out on the wrong side of both.
On Friday, the Irish fell 5-3 to Fairmont in 10 innings after scoring in the ninth to tie it at 3 on a double by Tyler Maeyaert that plated Matt Munson who was running for Konnor Zick.
However, Fairmont scratched across two runs in the top of the 10th and the Irish failed to score in their half of the inning.
“We gave up the lead late and fought right back to tie it in the bottom of the ninth,” Milroy manager Anthony Dolan said. “Following Tyler’s hit, we bring up Derek Smith, our best hitter, and if he singles in that moment, we win the ball game.”
Maeyaert shined on the mound as well, striking out 11 in seven innings of work. He gave up just two runs and three hits and walked one. Craig Lasley threw two shutout innings, and Derek Smith pitched the 10th and took the loss.
“Tyler threw one of his best games of the year facing a very good hitting Fairmont team,” Dolan said.
Dominic Dolan, Tyler Peterson and Tyler Patterson each had two hits for the Irish, who outhit Fairmont 10-5.

On Sunday in Hadley, the Buttermakers overcame a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the sixth inning to win 3-2 in seven innings.
Milroy (8-7, 7-3 Gopher League) was led at the plate by Maeyaert and Andrew Wallen with two hits apiece. Dolan and Maeyaert both had RBI.
Trevor Smith threw the first five innings, giving up two runs.
Tyler Peterson pitched the sixth and took the loss.
The Irish left 10 men on base in both losses.
"The story here is the same it's been the past five games - we aren’t getting that big hit when we need it most,” Anthony Dolan said. “Our pitching has been solid, but our bats are cold.”
Milroy will play at Worthington on July 9 and are back home July 13 to face the Pipestone A’s at 5 p.m.
