Name That Year

“Name that Year” is designed to put your knowledge of Tracy and its newsmakers of the past to the test. Each week, we will publish a news item that ran in a past edition — maybe it was a major event, or a story about a Tracy resident — it’s up to you to determine in what year that particular news item hit the pages of the paper:

• TAMI SCHONS AND PAM COOREMAN TOOK OVER THE OWNERSHIP OF THE TRACY FLORAL AND GREENHOUSE IN JULY OF THIS YEAR.

The identical twins graduated from Tracy High School in 1982. Pam and Kendall Cooreman returned to rural Tracy two years ago from Alaska and California. Tami and Ric Schons were living in the Twin Cities and have been back in Tracy for three years.

“We wanted to raise our children in a rural community. This business opportunity seems ideal for all of us,” said Tami. The two will have the advantage of thorough training. Long-time owner Bernie Holm will stay on for a year and tutor the new owners on the growing end of the business.

“His 47 years of experience will be excellent. I can learn more from him than I could ever learn in a school,” said Pam. “After I have this background, I will attend classes for anything else I feel necessary.”

Pam has been working for the Holms during holidays and the planting season. For the past few months, both women have been working for Bernie and Netter Holm learning different aspects of the business.

Kendall Cooreman worked at the greenhouse during his high school years.

He is now in the construction business. Tami’s husband, Ric, works for a wholesale plumbing company.

Schons has eight years of experience in giftware. She was a showroom manager at the Minneapolis Gift Mart for four years and has sold giftware in Minnesota, North and South Dakota for the past three years.

The business had been in Netter (Nelson) Holm’s family since 1933.

• Last week’s answer: Subway came to Tracy in 1997.
