Campaign launched to replace depot roof at Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum

The Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum has launched a special fundraising campaign to replace the roof of one of its most treasured buildings: the historic Depot.

Built in 1898, the Depot originally served the Revere Train Depot and now stands as the gateway for thousands of visitors exploring Walnut Grove each year. It houses two major exhibits: one featuring authentic artifacts from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s life and the other celebrating the beloved Little House on the Prairie TV series, including original props.

The campaign, titled “Raise the Roof,” aims to raise $16,000 to cover the cost. The Museum Board of Directors has pledged the first $1,000 but needs help to raise the rest.

Ways to donate:

• Online: https://givebutter.com/RaiseTheRoofWG

• By Mail: Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum, 330 8th St., Walnut Grove, MN 56180 (Please include “Raise the Roof” on the memo line)

• In Person: Donation box located in the Museum Gift Store “Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to preserving this beloved building for future generations,” said Palmer Hittesdorf, museum curator.
