Sports Flashbacks

July 21, 1955 — Tracy wound up its opening round playoff series in the Redwood County League by taking its second straight game from Slayton by the rousing score of 20-4 at Slayton. Lee Brandt was the hitting star with a pair of doubles and three singles in six trips to the plate.

July 22, 1965 — Tracy’s American Legion team defeated Hanley Falls 3-0 in a playoff game under the lights in Marshall. Dave McClellan hurled a nifty two-hitter, and Larry Sabinske, Bill Kluevein, Steve Stotka, Jim Budolfson and McClellan each had hits for Tracy.

July 17, 1975 — Milroy moved into first place in the Southwest Minny league here Sunday with an 8-2 decision over the Tracy Engineers. Yankee batters got 13 hits off Engineer pitcher Bryce Pack, while Dan Dolan hurled a five-hitter for Milroy despite two solo home runs by Keith Hoffmann and Doug Bosacker.

July 18, 1985 — Ric McClellan of Fargo, N.D., former Tracy resident, became the first three-time champion in the recent Redwood Falls Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament. He previously won the tournament in 1980 and 1983. He shot a oneunder-par 36-hole score of 143 to win by three strokes. McClellan not only broke the tournament single round record but broke the all-time course record by one stroke.

July 19, 1995 — The Milroy Junior Legion Baseball Team won its first playoff game against Windom at Milroy by a 1-0 score. Justin Schlemmer faced only 22 Windom hitters in the seven innings of play. He walked one, struck out eleven and allowed only one hit and one run. Wayne Hammond led the five-hit Milroy attack as he went 3-for-3 at the plate.

July 20, 2005 — The Milroy Legion baseball team advanced to the district tournament in Pipestone Friday and Saturday, July 21-22, with a 2-1 win over Springfield. Matt Bauer pitched a complete game in the victory over Springfield. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 7 and walking 6. Derek Daniels led the 6 hit Milroy attack with a pair of hits and a run batted in.

July 22, 2015 — Logan Axford has had a busy summer honing his wrestling skills. The Panther senior was recently selected for the Minnesota team that will be competing in Fargo, Thursday through Saturday, July 23-25. Earlier, Logan wrestled on a national dual team in Oklahoma for Greco and freestyle. Axford was selected for the team at a national freestyle wrestling team during a national freestyle training camp at Augsburg College.
