Addison Kainz and Shelby Johnson, both of Tracy, were members of the Marshall Academy of Dance’s national championship dance team that competed against studios from around the country at nationals on June 26-July 3 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
“The whole experience felt so surreal because I don’t think any of us were really expecting to win,” Kainz said. “The cheering from the crowd and the energy we had on stage while dancing was unmatched, making all the hard work worthwhile. I am very glad that we were able to end the competition season on such a high note and hope to be able to pull it off next year as well!”
The team danced to “Black and Gold” and was the high scoring team in the senior age group. They were called back to compete again in the championship against all group dances (small groups, large groups, and lines/productions). For awards, every studio that competed in the championships were called up on the stage. The top three dances in each category received scores, and from there, those that placed first in each size of groups were brought forward.
“It was so amazing,” Johnson said. “It was one of the best experiences, and I’m so glad I got to be a part of it with these girls. “I feel like all of the hard work that went toward this dance paid off.”
Kainz, the daughter of Jason and Jen Kainz, is a senior at Tracy Area High School, and Johnson, the daughter of Jarod and Summer Johnson, is a junior.
