From the Dugout

The first weekend for the 48th Annual Walnut Grove Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant is in the books. The production this year is “Faith in the Dream,” which is set between the years 18741875 when the Ingalls first arrived in Walnut Grove On Friday evening, there were 318 attendees and on Saturday evening, there were 456 in the audience. The excitement backstage both evenings was high, the cast was ready and the set/tech crews were on point, as was Lucy the cow and Bo and Sky, the horses.

The weather was near perfect both evenings as the threat for rain diminished Friday evening and the temperatures were great both days as well.

There are four more performances to go on Friday and Saturday evenings for the next two weeks. There will be a practice on Thursday evening for the cast and crew to brush up.

The Walnut Grove Village Fair began at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning. There was a very nice size crowd of people who attended.

There was a bouncy house, crafts, games, tug of war, gunny sack races, music and demonstrations, vendors, and food trucks, along with some events at the local businesses. The fair brought back the historical bus tours and held the Laura/Nellie Look-A-Like contest.

New this year was a reenactment with some of the cast from the Walnut Grove Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant. The audience seemed to love the show.

Next weekend, the Walnut Grove Village Fair is planning on Hometown Days with all the events from this weekend and adding many more events and activities, to include ax throwing, archery and a dunk tank.
