John Schaefer, 67

Services for John “Jack” Schaefer of Tracy were held on May 10, 2001 at Tracy Lutheran Church.

Jack was born Feb. 1, 1934, in Madison to John Sr. and Clara (Christopher) Schaefer of Gary, SD. He attended elementary school in rural Gary and attended high school in Canby. He served in the armed forces from 1953-1955 and also served for several years in the Brookings, SD, National Guard.

On December 21, 1959 he and Ardene Brix were married at Clark, SD. They made their home in Brookings. He worked for the Sexauer Company from 1957-1972, Hubbard Milling Company from 1972-1975, Continental Grain Company and Wayne Feeds as a district manager from 1975-1989, when he retired.

After retirement he worked for Pinkerton Security Company for seven years at the Minnesota Corn Processors plant in Marshall.

He enjoyed motorcycling, camping, traveling, going to auction sales, meeting people and making new friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, going to rodeos, motorcycle shows and reading.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Robert of Bayport, Travis of Mankato, Jeffrey and Justin both of Tracy; one daughter, Rita of Shoreview; three sisters, Berniece Jensen of Gary, SD, LaVina Schmahl of Greeley, CO and Elizabeth McCormick of Oneida, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and a daughter.

Graveside services were held in Grandview Cemetery in Gary, SD. The Hamilton-Birk Funeral Home of Marshall handled arrangements.
