George E. Klein

A memorial services for George E. Klein will be held on Sunday, July 8 at 2:30 p.m. in the Garvin County Park. In case of inclement weather, the services will be held in the Congregational Church in Garvin. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. Any questions, call 507-746-4405.

George passed away on January 28, 2001 at his winter home in Apache Junction, AZ.

Hazel F. Nash, 101

Funeral services were held for Hazel F. Nash on Monday, July 2, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton, MN. Rev. Steven Quist officiated. Organist was Lisa Parker with special music by Patti Follman and Claryce Miller.

Casket bearers were Elmer Johnson, Layton Ausen, Everette Johnson, Duane Johnson, Darvin Johnson and Melvin Johnson.

Hazel Florence Nash was born April 3, 1900 to Ever E. and Annie (Anderson) Johnson on a farm south of Balaton, MN in Skandia Township, Murray County. She was baptized in Zion Lutheran Church rural Balaton and later confirmed in Ruthton, MN. Hazel attended country school in District 8 in Skandia Township. One of thirteen children, she helped raise many of her siblings as a young girl.

On August 29, 1919 she married Harold H. Nash in Ruthton, MN and they built a home in Balaton. In 1933 they moved to a home Harold's parents had built also in Balaton. Here she lived until 1979 when she moved into the Circle Pine Apartments.

Hazel had worked as a cook at the Lake Shetek Bible Camp and later became the kitchen manager for many years. She and Hattie Miller ran a wallpapering business together during the 1940's and 50's and Hazel later worked in the Balaton cafe, called the Pla-eatorium. She was well known for the many great pies she made over the years.

Her interests included travel, playing cards, and games, needlework and a love of baking. She will be remembered for her good sense of humor, spending time with family and friends, and always having time for coffee.

Hazel was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church until 1991 when it closed and then a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton and the Balaton VFW auxiliary. She entered the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in December of 1999 and died Friday, June 29, 2001 at the Weiner Memorial Medical Center in Marshall, MN at the age of 101 years old.

She is survived by three sons, Vernon V. and wife Nona of Eden Prairie, MN, Conrad and wife Jane of Hemet, CA and Orville and his wife Margaret of Kirkland, WA; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; one brother Virgil and wife Margaret Johnson of Duncan, OK; one sister-in-law Gladys Johnson of Balaton, MN; one son-in-law, Dale Olson of Balaton, MN; many nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, one daughter Bessie, seven brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

Interment was at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Balaton, MN with the Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton handling arrangements.

Bernardine Truwe, 87

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 29, 2001 at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Bernardine Truwe. Father Brian Mandel officiated. Cantor was John Schleppenbach and Kathy Vondracek was organist.

Bernardine Clara Truwe was born April 23, 1914 to Joseph and Theresa (Lenertz) Gisch in St. Joe, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. In 1920 the family moved to Minnesota and she attended country school.

In 1935 she married Edwin Truwe in Darfar, Minnesota and made their home in Amboy, Minnesota. In the early 1940s she moved back to the Tracy area and cared for homebound people and worked for many years at the Tracy Nursing Home.

Bernardine was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, writing letters, making cards and doing craft projects. Bernardine taught herself to crochet and made numerous items for family and friends. She also enjoyed collecting stamps, growing flowers and spending time with her family.

Bernardine died June 25, 2001 at the age of 87 in the Weiner Memorial Hospital in Marshall.

She is survived by one son Robert and his wife, Rosella of Amiret, MN; one daughter Marcella and her husband, Roland Schmidt of Tracy, MN; two brothers Richard and Rita of Mountain Lake, MN, Raymond and Betty of Abernathy, TX; three sisters Helen Krueger of Waite Park, MN, Alyce and Daniel Lamfers of Comfrey, MN, Deloris Evers of Redwood Falls, MN; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Joseph, sister Alvina Zeigenhagen, infant sister, Celestine and two grandsons.

Interment was at the Tracy City Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handled arrangements.
