Lydia Miller, 93

Lydia M. Miller, 93, Grand Marais, died Thursday, February 15, 2001 in the North Shore Hospital.

She was born on May 19, 1907 to William and Ida (Saari) Salo, in Kiikka, Finland. In 1910 she moved with her family to the Hibbing area. She graduated from Hibbing High School, attended Hibbing Junior College, and graduated from Gustavus-Adolphus College in 1928.

She moved to Balaton, MN where she taught school for a short time and married Alfred Miller in 1929. They lived in Balaton until 1949, when they moved to Poplar Lake on the Gunflint Trail.

Alfred preceded her in death in 1976, and she moved in to Grand Marais in 1985.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grand Marais.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law Jennie Salo of Hibbing and Vera Salo of Indianapolis; a nephew Bob Salo of Florida and a niece Sandra Jorio of Indianapolis.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001 at First Baptist Church in Grand Marais. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Grand Marais. Arrangements are being handled by Cavallin Funeral Home.
