Girls survive ACGC pressure to pull into three-way 212 tie

The Panther girls' basketball team fought their way into a three-way tie for the lead in the 212 Conference with a 45-40 win over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City at Tracy Monday night.

The Panthers are now 10-6 for the season and 8-2 in the 212 Conference and tied with Yellow Medicine East and ACGC for the top spot.

"We are now where we want to be," said Panther Coach Paul Soupir. "Now we can control our own destiny and do not have to depend on anyone else for help."

"It is a close race," said Falcon Coach Terry Karlsgodt. "Along with TMB, YME and ACGC, Renville County West is only one game back at 7-3 and they play each of us yet."

Zwach pours in 21 against MACCRAY

Laura Zwach scored 21 points to lead the Panther girls to a come- from-behind win over MACCRAY Thursday night at Tracy 51-41.


MACCRAY tops cagers

The Panther Boys basket ball team lost to MACCRAY Tuesday night at Clara City by a score of 68-47. The loss dropped Tracy/Milroy/Balaton's season record to 2-15 and they are 1-7 in the 212 Conference. MACCRAY improved their conference leading record to 8-0.

"We were very sluggish in the first part of the game," said Panther Coach Jon Ruoff. "However once we adjusted to the officiating and to our opponents we played them very close in the second half."

"MACCRAY has a nice team," said ruoff. "They are very disciplined and they block a great number of shots. That tends to intimidate our shooters."


Kathman is champion in Plum Creek tourney

Wrestlers host quad Friday night

Senior Erik Kathman was the individual champion at 152 pounds in the Plum Creek wrestling tournament held in Lamberton Saturday. Kathman won all three of his matches.

Colin Evans won two of three matches to earn second place at 189.

Minneota won the meet. The Panthers were sixth out of ten teams.

Team scores were: Minneota, 190; Windom/Mountain Lake-Butterfield-Odin, 185.5; Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove, 161.5; Pipestone-Jasper, 103.5; Yellow Medicine East, 84; Tracy/Milroy/Balaton, 75; Redwood Valley, 71; Fulda/Murray County Central, 65; Dawson-Boyd, 61; MACCRAY, 57.

Panther wrestlers host a quadrangular Friday, Feb. 1, at the Prairie Pavilion starting at 5 p.m.
